German Stollen

Ingredients

  • 8-1/2 to 9 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup plus 2 T sugar, divided
  • 2 packages (1/4 oz each) active dry yeast
  • 2 t salt
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1-3/4 cups butter or margarine, softened, divided
  • 4 eggs
  • 1-1/2 t almond extract
  • 1 t grated lemon peel
  • 1 t rum extract
  • 2 T cherry liqueur, optional
  • 1-1/2 cups silvered almonds
  • 1 cup each chopped candied cherries, candied lemon peel, candied orange peel, and candied pineapple
  • 1 cup golden raisins
