Ingredients

  • 2 (7g) sachets active dry yeast
  • 125ml lukewarm water (approx 45 degrees C)
  • 4½ cups (625g) plain flour
  • 1/4 cup (55g) white sugar
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 2 eggs, beaten
  • 1½ cups (375ml) milk
  • 1½ cups chopped apple (about 2 medium granny smith apples)
  • 1 cup sultanas (optional)
  • 1 litre vegetable oil for frying
  • white sugar for decoration

This Recipe Was Handed Down To Me By My Mother. It’s A Traditional Dutch Favourite On New Year’s Eve. American Doughnuts Are Inspired By This Recipe.
