Copycat Fig Newtons

Ingredients

  • 1 lb. dried figs or 2 lbs. fresh figs
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 C. water for dried figs; 1/2 C. for fresh figs
  • 1/2 C. butter, room temperature
  • 1 C. sugar
  • 1 egg
  • 1 Tbs. cream or milk
  • 1/2 tsp. vanilla
  • 1/2 tsp. salt
  • 1 tsp. baking powder
  • 1 3/4 C. flour
