Armenian Cheese Pies Recipe

Ingredients

  • Dough Base.
  • 3/4 cup warm water (110 to 115 oC )
  • 1 package active dry yeast
  • 2 1/4 cups sifted all purpose flour (approx)
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon sugar
  • 1/4 cup melted butter
  • Follow the method for the base ,as for Lahmacun.
  • Topping
  • 6 tablespoons olive oil
  • 2 medium onions finely chopped
  • 2 cups canned tomatoes (crushed )
  • 1/2 cup tomato paste
  • 1and 1/2 tablespoons dried thyme
  • 2and 3/4 teaspoons dried oregano
  • 3/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • salt and cayenne to taste
  • 18 oz (540 grms) Cheddar or Monteray Jack cheese grated
  • olive oil
