Ingredients

For the beef

  • 1 kg rump steaks, cut into cubes
  • plain flour, for dusting
  • olive oil, for frying
  • 1 large onion, finely chopped
  • 50 g butter
  • 2 cloves garlic, crushed
  • 2 carrots, sliced
  • 1 small turnip, finely chopped
  • 2 sticks celery, finely chopped
  • 1 pinches ground allspice
  • 2 330ml bottles Guinness
  • 2 oranges, finely grated zest and juice
  • 2 tbsp finely chopped parsley
For the smashed swede

  • 1 swede, cut into small chunks
  • 1 knob butter
  • 2 tbsp creamed horseradish
To serve

  • buttered savoy cabbage
