New England Clam Chowder Recipe

Ingredients

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 medium onions, chopped
  • 1/2 cup butter or margarine
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 quarts (8 cups) milk
  • 3 cans (6-1/2 oz. each) diced or chopped clams, drained
  • 2 tsp. salt
  • 1/2 - 1 tsp. ground sage*
  • 1 tsp. ground thyme
  • 1/2 tsp. celery seed or celery salt
  • 1/2 tsp. pepper
  • Minced parsley
