Ingredients
- 1 cup(minus 2T) butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa(dark if you can find it)
- AND 2 squares semisweet chocolate, chopped
- 1 cup water(set to boiling in microwave--CAREFULLY--for when you need it)
- 2 cups sugar
- 2 cups flour
- 1/2t salt
- 1t cinnamon
- 1t cayenne pepper
- 2t vanilla
- 1t baking soda
- 3 eggs
- 8oz sour cream
- FROSTING:
- 1 1/2 sticks butter
- 1/4 cup cocoa
- 1 semi sweet baking square, chopped
- about 1/3 cup buttermilk(more or less depending on desired consistency once you start making the frosting)
- 1/2 cup pecans, finely chopped(optional---the only time I leave these out is when I make it for someone who requests no nuts--otherwise, I don't consider it optional. Unfortunately, this cake(in the photo) was made as a request...without nuts :(
- 1t vanilla
- About 3 cups powdered sugar(again, more or less as with the buttermilk--but you'll use about 1lb of sugar)
