- 420g (2 cups) glacé cherries, cut in halves
- 140g (3/4 cup) mixed candied peel, chopped
- 80g (3/4 cup) ground almonds
- Finely grated rind of 1 large orange and 1 large lemon
- 80 ml (1/3 cup) rum, whisky or brandy, for sprinkling over the cake before icing
