Pork & Hominy Stew

Ingredients

    2 tbsp chili powder
    1 tsp salt
    1/2 tsp black pepper
    2 1/2 lbs. boneless pork shoulder butt, cut into 2 1/2 inch pieces (to reduce fat content, use pork tenderloin or a leaner cut of pork)
    3 slices bacon, chopped (to reduce fat content omit)
    1 lg. onion, thinly sliced
    1 cut diced smoked ham (to reduce fat content use lean)
    1 med. carrot, chopped
    6 lg. cloves garlic, chopped
    2 poblano chilies, seeded and cut into 2" x 1/4" strips (substitute two small cans of chopped green chilies if desired)
    2 cups drained, canned hominy
    1 cup canned, diced tomatoes in juice
    1 cup beer (use lite to reduce calories)
    1 cup canned low-salt chicken broth
    1 tsp. dried marjoram
    1/4 cup chopped, fresh cilantro
