General Tsao's Chicken, My way

Ingredients

  • 1 tsp. black pepper
  • 1 egg
  • 1/2 cup cornstarch
  • Peanut oil, for frying
  • 1/3 cup cornstarch
  • 1/2 cup water
  • 1/4 tsp. garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp. ginger
  • 1 cup chicken stock
  • 3/4 cup sugar
  • 1/3 cup soy sauce
  • 1/4-1/2 cup white vinegar (depending on how tart you like it); can also use rice wine vinegar if you have it
  • 1/2 tsp. red pepper flakes (can use more or less depending on heat desired)
  • 2 green onions, sliced on diagonal (optional, for garnish)
  • Hot cooked rice (I like basmati rice)
