  • Filling
  • 4 ounces pitted dried dates (about 3/4 cup)
  • 3/4 cup water
  • 1/4 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 2 1/2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 4 tablespoons reduced-fat cream cheese
  • 1 1/4 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 1/2 cup pecans, chopped
  • Confectioners’ sugar for dusting or whipped cream for garnish
