Corn Chowder

Ingredients

4 tbsp. Butter
2 cans Vacuum-packed whole kernel sweet corn, drained (I use Libby's 11 oz. size)
1 can Cream style corn, drained only slightly
1 can (approx. 15 oz.) peeled whole tomatoes, drained
1 Medium to large yellow onion, finely chopped
1 Small to medium green bell pepper, finely chopped
3 Baking potatoes, cubed
1 tsp. Chicken bouillon granules or 1 cube
1 Small container heavy whipping cream
1 pint Half and half; about half of a HALF gallon of milk (I use 2%)
1 1/2 tsp. Salt
1 tsp. Sugar
Cayenne pepper to taste
1/2 tsp. Garlic powder
1 Bay leaf
1 tsp. Basil
1 tsp. Black pepper
1 to 1 1/2 cup Pieces of smoked or cooked ham (This is optional. If you cook a ham for any occasion like a honey-glazed ham for Christmas or something, just reserve a few pieces of it and put in freezer to use for this later and then cut it up when you make it) OR
1 pound Cooked small or salad-sized shrimp (optional)
