  2. 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  3. 2 large eggs, at room temperature
  4. 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  5. 1/4 teaspoon pure almond extract (optional)
  6. 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons whole milk
  7. Six 1-inch-thick slices of brioche, cut from a 1-pound loaf
  8. Confectioners’ sugar, for sprinkling
  9. Berries, for serving
