  • 3/4 cup dried apple slices, cut into 1/3-inch dice
  • 3/4 cup unsweetened apple juice
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter, softened
  • 1/4 cup plus 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed light brown sugar
  • 1/4 cup mild honey
  • 1/2 teaspoon grated nutmeg
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon (preferably Ceylon)
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • 3/4 cup heavy cream
  • 3/4 cup whole milk
  • 4 Medjool dates, pitted and cut into 1/4-inch pieces
