    • 1/3 cup hazelnuts

    For buttercream
    • 1/2 cup milk
    • 1 cup granulated sugar
    • 1 vanilla bean, halved lengthwise, or 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
    • 6 large egg yolks
    • 4 sticks (2 cups) unsalted butter, softened to cool room temperature

    • 1/2 cup blanched whole almonds, toasted, cooled, and chopped
    • confectioners' sugar
