  • ½ pound boneless pork loin, thinly sliced
  • 1 garlic clove, minced
  • 1 teaspoon grated fresh ginger plus 1 tablespoon chopped
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce
  • 1 tablespoon sake
  • One 1-pound head Chinese cabbage, leaves separated and discolored ones discarded
  • 1 carrot, scraped and cut into 2-inch strips
  • ½ pound lean streaky bacon slices, cut in half
  • 1¼ cups chicken broth
  • 2 teaspoons cornstarch mixed with 1 tablespoon water
  • Freshly ground black pepper to taste
  • Boiled rice
