Date Cake

Ingredients

  • 175g (1 1/2 cups) plain flour
  • 200g butter
  • 100g (1/2 cup) brown sugar
  • 4 eggs
  • 175g dates, chopped and pitted (I use dates that are sold ready for baking)
  • 3 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon bicarbonate of soda
  • 120ml milk
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 60g (1/2 cup) slivered or chopped almonds
  • 60g (1/2 cup) walnuts, chopped
