- 1bunch scallions, thinly sliced
- 4tablespoons tablespoons vegetable oil
- 1 pound beef or lamb stew meat, cut into cubes
- 1 medium onion, coarsely chopped
- 1/2 teaspoon ground turmeric
- Salt and black pepper, to taste
- Generous pinch crushed red pepper
- 4 dried lemons or 1 tablespoon dried lemon powder (available at Middle Eastern markets)
- 4 cups water
- 1 can (15 ounces) cannellini beans
- 1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice (optional)
