Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 tablespoons pure maple syrup
  • 2 medium onions, cut into thin wedges
  • 1 tablespoon snipped fresh sage
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 2 - 2 1/2 pound butternut squash
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 1 cup crumbled goat cheese (chevre) (4 ounces)
  • 1 cup coarse soft bread crumbs
  • 1/3 cup hazelnuts (filberts), toasted and chopped
  • 1 tablespoon butter, melted
