Grand Orange Chocolate Torte with Ancho Orange Pecans

Ingredients

  • Pastry Cream:
  • 1/4 cup granulated sugar
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream
  • 1 vanilla bean, split lengthwise and pulp scraped out
  • 3 large egg yolks at room temperature, beaten
  • 5 oz. dark chocolate, chopped
  • Torte:
  • 1 17.5 oz package sugar cookie mix
  • 1 large egg, beaten
  • 1 stick (1/2 cup) butter, melted and cooled
  • 1/4 cup orange-flavored liqueur
  • Ancho Orange Pecans:
  • 3/4 cup orange juice
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons ancho chili powder
  • 1/4 cup pecans, chopped
  • Whipped Cream:
  • 1 cup heavy whipping cream, well chilled
  • 2 tablespoons confectioners sugar
  • 1 teaspoon orange-flavored liqueur
  • Garnish:
  • 2 oz dark chocolate, shaved or chopped
  • 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated orange zest
  • 1 teaspoon unsweetened cocoa powder

Description
