Wisconsin Beer-cheese Chowder

Ingredients

  • 1-1/2 cups  small broccoli flowerets
  • 3/4 cup  shredded carrot
  • 3/4 cup  chicken broth or water
  • 1/4 cup  chopped onion
  • 1/4 cup  margarine or butter
  • 1/4 cup  all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon  dry mustard
  • 1/4 teaspoon  pepper
  • 2 cups  milk
  • 1 3-ounce package  cream cheese, cut into cubes and softened
  • 8 ounces  fully cooked Polish sausage, cut into thin slices
  • 1-1/2 cups  shredded sharp cheddar cheese or American cheese (6 ounces)
  • 3/4 cup  beer
