Ingredients

  • 1/2 of a 10-3/4 ounce  package frozen or fresh pound cake, thawed if necessary and cut into 1/4-inch-thick slices, or 24 ladyfingers
  • 2 to 3 tablespoons  Marsala or apple juice
  • 1 8-ounce container  mascarpone cheese* or one 8-ounce package cream cheese, softened
  • 1 tablespoon  powdered sugar
  • 1/4 cup  Marsala or apple juice
  • 4   egg yolks
  • 1/3 cup  granulated sugar
  • 1-1/2 cups  whipping cream
  • 2 tablespoons  instant espresso coffee powder
  • 1   vanilla bean, split, or 1 teaspoon vanilla
  • 1 cup  whipping cream
  •   Sugared kumquats (optional)
  •   Sugared strawberries (optional)
  •   Orange peel curls (optional)
