  • 1-1/2 pounds  Granny Smith apples, peeled, cored and sliced (about 6 cups)
  • 1 pound  pears, peeled, cored and sliced (about 3 cups)
  • 1/2 cup  dried cherries
  • 2/3 cup plus 1 tablespoon  sugar
  • 1/3 cup  sliced natural almonds
  • 1/4 cup  all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon  ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon  ground nutmeg
  • 1/4 teaspoon  salt
  • 1 egg  lightly beaten with 1 tablespoon water
