Ingredients

  • 2 tablespoons  olive oil
  • 1 large  onion, trimmed and sliced
  • 3   cloves garlic, smashed
  • 1/2 teaspoon  red pepper flakes
  • 1/2 teaspoon  dried oregano
  • 1/2 teaspoon  ground chile powder
  • 3 tablespoons  fresh lime juice
  • 1/2 teaspoon  salt
  • 1 pound  boneless, skinless chicken breast halves
  • 1 can (14.5 ounces)  low-sodium tomato sauce
  • 1/2   of a firm, ripe avocado
  • 1/2 cup  shredded Monterey Jack or pepper-Jack cheese
  • 4 tablespoons  prepared tortilla strips (from a 3.5-ounce package, such as Fresh Gourmet) or see Note
