- 1/4 to 1/3 cup fine Italian bread crumbs
- 1/4 cup freshly grated Parmigiano-Reggiano cheese (a generous handful), plus more to pass around the table
- Salt and freshly ground pepper
- 1/2 pound spaghetti, broken into thirds
- 1 cup fresh basil leaves, shredded
