- 4 tablespoons extra virgin olive oil (EVOO), divided
- 1 carrot, finely chopped
- 1 onion, finely chopped
- 1 bay leaf
- 2 tablespoons chopped fresh rosemary
- 3 tablespoons tomato paste
- 2 1/2 cups beef broth
