- half-1 cup fresh corn kernels, steamed until just tender (canned or frozen will work in a pinch)
- half cup grated sharp Cheddar cheese
- half cup grated Monterey Jack cheese (mellow white melty cheese)
- half cup all-purpose flour
- three quarters cup blue corn meal (a Native American staple ingredient that can be substituted with yellow corn meal if you are unable to get the blue)
- 1 teaspoon baking powder
- half teaspoon salt
- three quarters cup buttermilk
