For adults, Cinco de Mayo is all about the margaritas, Mexican menu and music selection. How to celebrate this festive day with the kids, then? We put together this Cinco de Mayo party for kids using paper party supplies and created a fun, interactive burrito bar.

Set up a table outside using kid friendly decorations. We used burlap to cover our table and layered Mexican styled blankets to sit on.

Brightly colored lanterns and solid colored paper plates can also be hung on twine to help create your Fiesta backdrop. It's a really inexpensive way to add flair to your party's space!

Create a burrito bar for the kids to make their own. It's a great way to get them enjoying the party hands-on, and it will also add a festive display to your party.

Rather than putting your burrito bar ingredients out on the table in boring bowls, create 'Sombreros' to display them.

Our burrito bar included scrambled eggs, shredded cheese and bacon as they are kid friendly ingredients. Add colored veggies such as tomatoes or avocado as an opportunity to try something new. (Work with what your kids like best!)

'Sombrero' Dish To-Do:

1. Take colored paper plates and glue colored cups upside down onto the paper plates (we used the same color for both, but feel free to get creative with your choice).

2. Decorate the rim of the plate or ‘hat’ with colored pom-poms. Just put a bit of glue on the bottom and position on the plate.

3. Finish the Sombrero off with some yarn or twine wrapped around the base of the cup. Add your burrito bar ingredients to each of the plates.

Embellish your table décor with Cinco De Mayo printables. We used Frog Prince Paperie’s Cinco De Mayo Collection. 

The “Ole!” pennant banner from the package was super easy to assemble, and we hung it from DIY mini Mexican piñatas. Then, we used it as the centerpiece of our table.

Centerpiece To-Do:

1. Paint 2 small Styrofoam balls (found 2/$1 at a local Dollar store) and cut out triangle shapes from scrapbook paper.

2. Glue the triangle shapes to the Styrofoam balls and add strips of tissue paper at the tips of the triangles.

3. Glue the Styrofoam balls onto wooden dowels and place the dowels into two Styrofoam cubes (also found at your local Dollar store). Embellish the cubes with the coordinating circles from the printable package. Tie twine or yarn in between piñatas and glue on pennants.

What is a Fiesta without the guacamole, salsa and chips? Surprise your little guests with a sweet spin on the traditional favorites. Serve up cookies made to look like chips and topped with some fruit salsa (made of strawberries and kiwis) and "guacamole" made with marshmallow and cream cheese. 

You can let the kids assemble their own cookies - just add printable circles to lollipop sticks and place in each bowl for added fun and easy identification.

For more sweetness and delightful details we served Sugarbelle’s Sombrero cookies and used as placecards at each table setting.

Once your little amigos are done eating, provide a fun craft for them to keep the Fiesta going. Let them make and style their very own Ponchos.

Decorate cups that hold markers and glue sticks with printable circles and the same pom-poms used for the Sombreros.

Poncho To-Do:

Cut out holes from brown paper bags for the head and arms. Provide markers, glue, stickers, pom-poms and any left over printable circles for the kids to decorate with and add details.

This kid-friendly Fiesta will surely have your guests saying Ole!
