Ingredients

  • 12 x baby artichokes
  • 6 c. chicken broth
  • 1 c. small boiling onions, peeled and halved, or possibly pearl onions
  • 4 ounce pancetta or possibly 5 slices crisp-cooked bacon, liquid removed and cut into small
  •     pcs
  • 1 tsp fennel seed, crushed
  • 1/4 tsp pepper
  • 2 c. cooked* or possibly canned fava or possibly lima beans, rinsed and liquid removed
  • 12 ounce fresh asparagus spears, trimmed and cut into 1- inch pcs
  • 1 med fennel bulb, minced
  • 1/4 c. snipped fennel leaves
