Amish White Bread Recipe


  • 1/4 ounce dry yeast
  • 1/2 cup warm water
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 2 cups water (warm, I used at 90 degrees)
  • 2-1/2 tbsp shortening
  • 6-7 cups all purpose or bread flour
  • 1/8-1/4 cup butter


Got This From Recipezaar Who Got It From An Old Amish Cookbook. Tried It The Day I Was Making Beef Stew And It Is So Good For Soaking Up Juices. Makes Great Sandwiches, Too!
