Ingredients
- ⢠1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
- ⢠1/2 teaspoon salt
- ⢠2 teaspoons baking powder
- ⢠1 tablespoon granulated sugar
- ⢠2 tablespoons shortening
- ⢠2 tablespoons butter
- ⢠1/2 cup milk
- ⢠1 egg, beaten well
- ⢠4 large tart apples, peeled and cut into eighths
- ⢠3 tablespoons packed light brown sugar
- ⢠1 teaspoon cinnamon
- ⢠1/2 cup coarsely chopped walnuts

- ⢠1/2 cup granulated sugar
- ⢠1 tablespoon cornstarch
- ⢠1/4 teaspoon salt
- ⢠1 cup boiling water
- ⢠1 tablespoon finely grated lemon peel
- ⢠2 tablespoons fresh lemon juice
- ⢠1 tablespoon butter
- In a saucepan, combine sugar, cornstarch and salt. Add boiling water. Cook, stirring constantly, until mixture is thick and clear. Stir in lemon peel, lemon juice, and butter. Serve warm.
