Ingredients

  1. 1/2 pound fresh mozzarella, cut into 1/2-inch cubes
  2. 1 clove garlic, minced
  3. 2 1/2 tablespoons olive oil
  4. 3/4 teaspoon salt
  5. Dried red-pepper flakes
  6. 1/4 cup chopped fresh parsley
  7. 1 small onion, chopped
  8. 1 1/2 cups canned crushed tomatoes in thick puree (one 15-ounce can)
  9. 1/4 cup water
  10. 3/4 pound penne
  11. 1/2 pound Canadian bacon, cut into 1/4-inch dice
