Ingredients

  1. 1/4 cup plus 3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, plus more for drizzling
  2. 1 1/2 pounds large shrimp, shelled and deveined, shells reserved
  3. 1 quart water
  4. 2 pounds cockles, scrubbed
  5. 8 garlic cloves, very finely chopped
  6. 1 teaspoon Aleppo pepper or 1/2 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  7. 3/4 pound angel hair pasta
  8. 1/8 teaspoon saffron threads
  9. 1/4 cup heavy cream
  10. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  11. 1 tablespoon plus 1 teaspoon fresh lemon juice
  12. 2 teaspoons finely chopped mint
  13. 1/2 cup salted roasted almonds, coarsely chopped
