Ingredients

  1. 6 cups plus 1 tablespoon whole milk
  2. 1/2 teaspoon saffron threads
  3. 1/2 cup blanched, whole almonds
  4. 1/2 cup shelled unsalted pistachios
  5. 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  6. 2/3 cup semolina
  7. 1/2 cup plus 2 tablespoons sugar
  8. 3/4 teaspoon ground cardamom
  9. Edible silver leaf, for garnish (optional; see Note)
