Basque Chicken and Chorizo Sauté

Ingredients

  1. 4 ounces dry chorizo, sliced 1/4 inch thick
  2. 2 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil
  3. 6 whole chicken legs, split (3 1/2 pounds)
  4. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  5. 2 medium red bell peppers, cut into 1/2-inch-thick strips
  6. 2 medium red onions, thinly sliced
  7. 6 large garlic cloves, thinly sliced
  8. 2 large thyme sprigs
  9. 1 cup cherry tomatoes, halved
  10. 3/4 cup dry sherry
  11. 2 teaspoons sweet paprika
  12. 3/4 teaspoon crushed red pepper
  13. One 9-ounce package frozen artichoke hearts, thawed and pressed dry
  14. 2 tablespoons shredded basil
  15. Crusty French bread, for serving
