Shepherd's Pie

Ingredients

Brown ground beef, drain off most but not all fat, and add the type of seasoning and added -combo you are in the mood for such as: Italian - (add a half pound fresh ground Italian sausage to the gr. beef) a little oregano, parsley and thyme, some fresh garlic, a diced onion and one can of diced tomatoesMexican - a little red pepper, Adobo, garlic, cilantro, a diced jalapeno, a pinch of cinammon and a shaving of unsweetened chocolate, and a can of diced tomatoesIndian - turmeric,coriander seeds,chili powder, light mustard seeds, fenugeek, ground ginger-root,Vegetarian - use crumbled veggie burger in place of beef. Also saute mushrooms, and onions, finely diced, with the veggie burger, season with seasoning salt'Plain' - just add salt and pepper and a bit of beef broth if needed for moistnessMeanwhile, boil your potatoes and mash them with salt, pepper, milk and butter (if desired) and depending on the seasoning combo you have used above you may or may not want to season your potatoes. But when we make a seasoned meat, we usually do not season the potatoes a whole lot, on the other hand, when we keep the meat more plain, we usually season the potatoes with:paprikachivesparsleygarlicCook a package of frozen corn (or mixed veggies or peas also work, but all our kids prefer corn). If I am doing the Mexican version, I add some diced peppers and onions and a little salsa to the cornThen layer in a large rectangle pan (like a lasagna pan) - meat on the bottom, then veggies, then mashed potatoes on top. Dot the potatoes with butter and you can sprinkle with a little cheese (such as parmesan) and then bake for about 20 minutes at 350F
