Channa (chickpea)

Ingredients

  • 8 oz. chickpeas
  • 1 tsp. baking soda
  • 3 Tbs. ghee or olive oil
  • 1 onion peeled and chopped
  • 1 bay leaf
  • 1" cinnamon stick
  • 4 black cardamoms
  • 1 tsp. ginger paste
  • 1 tsp. garlic paste
  • 1 tsp. ground coriander
  • 1 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 tsp. ground turmeric
  • 5 tomatoes, chopped
  • 1-2 green chilies, cut in half
  • Salt to taste
  • 2 sprigs of fresh green coriander leaves, chopped
