Glogg

Ingredients

  • Glögg
  • 3/4 cup almonds
  • 5 cardamom pods. peeled
  • 10 whole cloves
  • 5 cinnamon sticks
  • Zest of 1 orange
  • 1 bottle Burgundy or Claret Red Wine or Port
  • 1 cup raisins (light or dark)
  • 1 bottle Brandy, Vodka or Aquavit, pick your poison:)
  • 3/4 cup crushed sugar cubes
  • 1. Toast almonds in a skillet for 2-3 minutes. Set aside.
  • 2. Combine spices and orange zest in a nylon bag or cheesecloth and tie closed. Put the bag, half the wine and raisins in a saucepan and simmer 20 minutes. Do Not Boil.
  • 3. Add remaining wine and almonds.
  • 4. In s separate saucepan, heat 1/3 of the Brandy (or other liquor), pour in the sugar and light with a match. When sugar is melted, cover pan to extinguish the flame, then add the remaining liquor.
  • 5. Add Brandy (or other liquor) mixture to the wine and spice mixture. Serve hot in small cups while sitting down:)
