- 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
- 1/2 teaspoon ground black pepper
- 3 cups shredded Gruyere, provolone, Swiss, or Jarslberg cheese (12 ounces)
- 1 1/3 cups whipping cream
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg or 1/8 teaspoon ground nutmeg (optional)
- Green onion slivers (optional)
