Johana's Plantains

Ingredients

    1/3 cup panela (or coconut sugar or light brown sugar)
    1 tbsp honey
    2 cinnamon sticks
    1 vanilla bean, split and scraped (keep the pod)
    ½ tbsp salted butter
    2 large ripe (black) plantains, peeled and cut into chunks
    1 large *just* ripe (still a hint of green) banana, peeled and cut into chunks

Description

My Colombian Schoolmate Made These Sweet, Caramelly Plantains (or Plátanos Calados) And Served Them In Arepas. Traditionally They're Eaten With Queso Fresco As Dessert.
