Grandma Cunniffe's Scones

Ingredients

    Mix together dry ingredients:
    2 1/4 c. unbleached flour
    1/4 c. sugar
    2 tsp. baking powder
    1/4 tsp. baking soda
    1/4 tsp. salt
    With fingers, rub into dry ingredients:
    1/4 c. Butter or margarine
    Into this mixture, stir:
    1/2 c. currants
    1/2 Tbsp. caraway seeds
    In a separate measuring container, mix:
    1 c. sour cream
    Milk to make a scant 1 1/2 c. (together with the sour cream)
    Mix the wet ingredients into the dry ingredients until just moistened. Sprinkle flour onto it and knead lightly (just two or three kneads until it forms a ball.) Form into a flat oval on a floured board, about 1/2 inch thick. Cut into 12 pieces. (See diagram below.) Separate pieces and place on a cookie sheet. Bake at 350 degrees for about 22-25 minutes or until light golden color.
