- 1/3 cup chopped shallots (or substitute onion and a clove of garlic)
- 1/2 pound cremini mushrooms, sliced
- Salt to taste
- Pepper to taste
- 1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
- 1/2 teaspoon dry tarragon or 2 teaspoons of chopped fresh tarragon
- 1 tablespoon brandy or cognac (optional)
- 1 cup sour cream, at room temperature
- 3/4 pound egg noodles
