  • 3 cups all-purpose flour
  • 3 cups sugar
  • 1 tablespoon baking soda
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons salt
  • 3 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups buttermilk
  • 1 1/2 cups hot water
  • 3/4 cup vegetable oil
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons pure vanilla extract
  • Caramel Buttercream
  • Food coloring, preferably brown, orange, peach, copper, and egg yellow
  • 1 licorice shoelace, cut into 6 equal lengths
