For the bhajis- 150 ml Greek yogurt
- 75 g gram flour
- 1/2 tsp ground cumin seeds
- 1/2 tsp garam masala
- 3/4 tsp turmeric
- pinches salt
- 1-2 green or red chillies, deseeded and finely sliced
- 1 large white onion, sliced
- 30 g coriander, leaves and stalks, chopped
- 1 lime, juice only
- 1 litres vegetable or sunflower oil, for frying
- 3 tbsp groundnut or vegetable oil
- 5 cloves garlic, sliced
- 1 tsp each mustard seeds, cumin seeds, coriander seeds and cardamom pods
- 250 g split peas, yellow or green
- 2 tbsp butter
- 80 g flaked almonds
- 350 g basmati rice, rinsed and drained
- plain or Greek yogurt
- mango chutney
