- 3 tablespoons unsalted butter, melted
- FILLING:
- 1/3 cup whole blanched almonds
- 1/4 cup sugar
- 1 tablespoon flour
- 2 large egg yolks
- 1/2 cup milk
- 1/2 teaspoon vanilla extract
- 1 tablespoon pear brandy* (optional)
- 1 1/4 pounds firm-ripe Bosc pears, peeled, cored, and thinly sliced lengthwise
- 2 tablespoons apple jelly
- *a pear-flavored vodka would work too
