Pumpkin-pear Upside-down Gingerbread

  • 1/2 cup  packed brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon  light-colored corn syrup
  • 1-1/4 cups  all-purpose flour
  • 1-1/2 teaspoons  grated fresh ginger or 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon  finely shredded orange peel
  • 3/4 teaspoon  ground cinnamon
  • 1/2 teaspoon  baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon  baking soda
  • 1/3 cup  butter
  • 1/3 cup  packed brown sugar
  • 1   egg
  • 1/2 cup  canned pumpkin
  • 1/4 cup  mild-flavored molasses
  •   Whipped cream
