Ingredients

  • 1-3/4 cups  sugar
  • 3/4 cup  cornstarch
  • 1/4 teaspoon  salt
  • 6   egg yolks (save whites for meringue)
  • 2 tablespoons  unsalted butter, cut up
  •   Meringue:
  • 6   egg whites
  • 1/2 teaspoon  cream of tartar
  • 1/2 cup  sugar
