Rustic Sun-dried Tomato Bread Recipe


  • 3-1/2 cups bread flour
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 3/4 package of active yeast (quick rising)
  • 1/3 cup minced marinated sun-dried tomatoes (reserving any oil they came with)
  • 3 tablespoons herbs de province (rosemary, oregano, marjoram, savory, thyme and lavender in equal parts if you do not have herbs de province handy)
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons minced fresh garlic – 3-4 garlic cloves
  • 1/3 cup of minced red onion (Bermuda) for added color
  • 1 tablespoon of reserved olive oil that came from the marinated sun-dried tomatoes
  • 1 tablespoon butter
  • 1 good teaspoon of kosher salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon of fresh cracked pepper
  • 1/4 teaspoon of dried red chili flakes
  • 2-1/2 tablespoons of honey
  • *****once dough is rising you will need:
  • 1/3 cup flour, possibly more when letting dough rise once your machine is finished making the dough.
  • *****when ready to bake you will need:
  • water mister or 3 ice cubes for helping to create a crusty and crunchy crust like you love on those Italian bastone loafs.
  • 1/4 cup max of corn meal to place under dough when about to bake bread loaf.
  • ******Equipment Needed:
  • One working bread machine dough, two clean dish towels, cookie sheet, large bowl
