  • 1/4-cup orange-flavored liqueur (recommended: Grand Marnier) or water
  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking powder
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1 1/2 cups (3 sticks) unsalted butter, at room temperature, cut into cubes
  • 2 cups sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 2 medium oranges, zest finely grated
  • 1 tablespoon coarse polenta or cornmeal
