  1. 3 dried pasilla chiles (see Note)
  2. 1/4 cup pitted prunes
  3. 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  4. 1 small onion, finely diced
  5. 2 garlic cloves, minced
  6. 2 tablespoons sugar
  7. 1/4 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  8. 1 tablespoon sherry vinegar
  9. 1 tablespoon mezcal (see Note)
  10. 1/4 cup chicken stock
  11. Salt and freshly ground pepper
  12. One 1 3/4-pound flank steak
